Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Pittyvaich
Johnnie Walker has released Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Pittyvaich. This is the fourth release in the limited edition series. It explores the character of rare whiskies from the “ghost” distillery of Pittyvaich.
Pittyvaich had a short life but left a distinct and growing legacy. The distillery opened in 1974 but closed in 1993 after only 18 years of life. It is now considered as a hidden gem whispered about the world over for its unique Speyside style.
The Johnnie Walker Ghost and Rare series uses irreplaceable ‘ghost’ whiskies and other rare expressions. These are drawn from the Johnnie Walker reserves used to create Blue Label.
Jim Beveridge is Johnnie Walker's Master Blender. He chose two other “ghost” whiskies from Port Dundas and Carsebridge to showcase the Pittyviach in this blend. Scotch from Mannochmore, Auchroisk, Cragganmore, Strathmill and Royal Lochnagar were then added.
“We have waited for the perfect moment to showcase this rare gem of the whisky world.” Jim said. Pittyvaich may only have thrived for a short time, but the whisky they laid down is unmistakable. Its distinct autumnal character has always intrigued us. It fired our imagination to create something special. We wanted to pay tribute to the whisky makers of this Speyside distillery,” he added.
The Pittyvaich brings sweet, fruit notes of fresh apple and autumnal flavours. Port Dundas and Carsebridge bring subtle sweetness of honeycomb and soft wood. Other whiskies add dark fruit, berries, gentle butterscotch, stewing orchard fruits and cinnamon.
The Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare series so far includes:
- Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare Brora (2017)
