Bruichladdich (Lochindaal) 15 Year Old Tasting Notes

Official tasting notes

Fading embers, wet stones and brioche.

Ed's review

Colour: Natural colour, bright gold. Thick and oily in the glass with slow legs.

Nose: The scent of Islay. Family campfires on the cliffs overlooking the ocean as smoke fades into the salty air. Oyster shells and lemon wedges sat on granite. Malt and oak towards the back.

Palate: Medium to full mouthfeel. Earthy peat smoke, coastal salinity, malt, and hint of barbequed bacon rashers. Vanilla pastries bring a little sweetness, and a refreshing lemon citrus provides a counterbalance. Alcohol is well integrated, particularly at this high ABV.

Finish: Long finish. Smoke and lemon fade through apples to wood spice.

Overall: Everything you want a good Islay to be - full of that typical smokey coastal character, but balanced, poised and elegant.

About this Lady of The Glen whisky

Bruichladdich is famed for producing a dry smoky whisky with floral hints. This single cask is from a rare spirit run which is heavily peated and called Lochindaal. Fully matured in a first-fill bourbon barrel adding sweetness.

This gem from Lady of The Glen is a modern rarity from this iconic distillery. Rumour has it that only 250 casks of Lochindaal were distilled between 2007 and 2009 making this one of the oldest casks bottled. Fully matured in a fresh bourbon barrel and peating level of 50ppm to sit in-between the core release Port Charlotte and Octomore levels.

Gregor Hannah, Founder of Lady Of The Glen Whisky

Meet The Founder

Gregor Hannah

Lady Of The Glen was founded by, and is still run by, Gregor Hannah. From a young age, Gregor developed a keen interest in whisky, influenced by his father, a Scottish piper. His father would often receive bottles of whisky as tokens of appreciation for his performances at various celebrations, including weddings and Burn's Nights. Fascinated by the wide array of bottles, each with its own unique colours, shape, and label, Gregor developed a strong appreciation for scotch whisky.

Two and a half decades later, while working at a bar, Gregor's learned about independent bottling. Here, he gained in-depth knowledge about the history and techniques of sourcing and bottling unique whiskies. This led him to establish Lady of The Glen in 2012. The brand is independently owned and specialises in sourcing and bottling rare, single-cask whiskies from various regions in Scotland.
