Bruichladdich 13 Year Old Tasting Notes

Lisa McWilliam's tasting notes without water

Nose: Warming rounded notes of fruitcake, Christmas pudding and dried fruit, with subtle hints of peaches and apricots and buttered toast.

Palate: An exciting departure from the rounded notes on the nose to a much fresher zing of citrus and spice. Fresh orange and lime zest are balanced with aromatic spices and heat.

Finish: A generous and lengthy finish, bringing spices, especially cloves, and some final heat to the mouth.

Lisa McWilliam's tasting notes without water

Nose: The addition of water significantly opens up the sweeter aromas of butterscotch burnt caramel and vanilla custard.

Palate: The sharpness of zesty citrus continues with the addition of water with subtle cardamon hints.

Finish: There is a pleasingly robust and lengthy finish with lingering cloves and a hint of aniseed.

Ed's review

Colour: Light copper or amber. Oily in the glass with pronounced legs.

Nose: Gentle earthy smoke, toffee, and red apple. A minerality, like pebbles on the shore. Scottish shortbread, rich with butter. Oak and fresh sandalwood. Cinnamon and cloves.

Palate: Medium mouthfeel. Bright autumnal spice awakens the palate. Toffee apples by the campfire. Orange liqueur. Alcohol is well integrated, bringing a nice warmth to the palate.

Finish: Medium to long finish. Smoke and spice fade through a wonderful sweet fruit and berry note.

About The Qilin

The Qilin is a magical beast whose mythology combines the essence of Scotland with the spirit of Asia. Galloping through eastern forests, proudly sporting a majestic horn and with a wreath of divine flames coating its equine form, it mirrors the Unicorn, the national symbol of Scotland. Their distant familial ties interweave the sterling values of Scotland with the magic of Asia, representing wisdom, justice and truth. Legend has it that all who commune with the Qilin reap the rewards of its benevolent spirit, finding good fortune and prosperity. Rich in character and flavour, echoing ages past, the Qilin brings elements of ancient mythology into the modern age.

Meet The Founders

Russell Spratley and Ross Archer

Spiritfilled was founded by two entrepreneurial best friends, who both love whisky. Russell and Ross stared Spiritfilled as cask broker, helping clients around the world to buy and sell quality whisky casks.

As they explored the warehouses of Scotland, somethings Russell and Ross would discover a certain cask that they'd fall in love with. They couldn't part ways with these super special casks, and so decided to bottle these themselves. Mythical Beasts is their independent bottler label, under which they release their single cask whiskies.
