About this Islay Whisky Club exclusive

Islay Whisky Club, in collaboration with Woodrow’s of Edinburgh, present their fourth club bottling: an exclusive 13-year-old Williamson (a name often used for single malts distilled at Laphroaig).

Distilled on 1 November 2011 and bottled on 2 September 2025, this Islay whisky began life in a refill barrel before being finished in a rare first fill Amontillado sherry firkin (cask 300032). Firkin casks are smaller than standard hogsheads, offering greater wood interaction and a concentrated influence of sherry character. Amontillado, sitting between Fino and Oloroso in style, lends both nutty dryness and delicate sweetness, creating a complex layer over Laphroaig’s unmistakable smoky, coastal spirit.

Bottled at 57.4% cask strength, with natural colour and no chill filtration, this release is limited to just 51 bottles, making it exceptionally scarce.

The official tasting notes capture its bold individuality: the nose opens with leather handbags and sweet shops, the palate delivers caramelised summer fruits and Biscoff sauce, while the finish combines Laphroaig’s signature salt and pepper with flambéed crème caramel. A dram that fuses classic Islay power with an unexpected sherry twist.

How much is shipping?

Shipping charges are calculated during checkout, depending on where you live and how many bottles you’re buying. It's usually more cost effective to ship two or more bottles, particularly for international orders. The perfect excuse to treat yourself to an extra bottle!

What about taxes?

All alcoholic products sold by TopWhiskies are sold subject to UK alcohol tax, which is already included in the price.

UK sales are subject to VAT (currently 20%), which is included in the price. Sales outside of the UK are not subject to this tax, and international prices do not include it.

We use a specialist US shipper who sorts out US taxes. These costs are factored into the US shipping charges. So shipping may look pricey, but remember it covers your taxes as well, so there'll be no further bills to pay. US Customs takes two to three weeks to complete, after which your parcel will arrive at your door as if it were a normal delivery.

For all other territories, including those in Europe, please note: your order could be subject to local sales taxes and duties upon arrival in the destination country. All additional charges are the responsibility of the recipient. As customs policies vary widely from country to country, TopWhiskies has no control over these charges, so you should contact your local customs office for further information. If you refuse to pay any import duties and taxes, this could result in the goods being destroyed by customs or being returned back to us - any refund offered would include a deduction of our costs.

Which couriers do you use?

In the UK we use Royal Mail, Parcelforce and APC. US orders are sent via UPS. International orders use FedEx and DHL. Orders are despatched from our UK warehouse Mondays to Fridays, excluding public holidays.

Carbon neutral?

Yes, all our deliveries are carbon neutral. We work with Planet to estimate the carbon impact of each delivery, and then purchase carbon removal credits to offset the emissions.

Meet The Founder

Woody Tan

Originally from Hong Kong, Woody Tan has lived in Scotland since 2011. He studied an MSc in Brewing and Distilling at Heriot-Watt University, and then went into the cask trade and warehouse keeping. While looking after casks, he started to discover gems that he felt had to be shared with fellow whisky lovers. He bottles these special casks under his Woodrow’s of Edinburgh label.

Woody has an excellent palate, and a knack for uncovering really flavoursome casks. He’s also a wizard when it comes to cask experiments, and has released some interesting cask-finished whiskies.
