Mortlach 11 Year Old Tasting Notes

Woody's tasting notes

Nose: Black cherries, muscovado sugar with contrasting sour notes of kimchi.

Palate: An oily palate with sweet fruity notes of plum jam, goji berries and salted toffee accompanied by biltong and umami notes.

Finish: Medium in length with lingering notes of tart, dark fruits and baking spices.

Ed's review

Colour: Medium copper. Thick and oily in the glass with pronounced legs.

Nose: A deep, earthy character with bundles of dark sherried fruits. Plums, figs, raisins, currants. A touch of woody spice.

Palate: Full mouthfeel with a wonderful velvety texture. Packed full of sherried fruit with more plums, figs, raisins and currants. The high quality Mortlach malt adds a savoury note behind the sherried fruit. A touch of cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Alcohol is well integrated, contributing to the mouthfeel.

Finish: Long with the sherried fruit fading through malt into bright spice.

Overall: Superb dram, great example of heavily sherried Mortlach. Highly recommend.
