About this Woodrow's whisky

Woodrow's of Edinburgh introduces Race to the Bottom, Highland Motherlover, a playful yet expertly crafted 9 Year Old single malt scotch created by founder Woody Tan. Distilled in 2015 and bottled in 2024, this Highland whisky hails from a secret distillery, often referred to as Speyside M and sometimes frequented by telletubbies. Its maturation combines the best of two worlds, with time spent in a first-fill French oak oloroso sherry hogshead and a first-fill American oak PX hogshead, resulting in a rich and indulgent profile of dried fruits, chocolate, and warming spices. Bottled at 50% ABV, it strikes a balance between boldness and approachability, making it a memorable addition to the Warehouse Reserve range.

Meet The Founder

Woody Tan

Originally from Hong Kong, Woody Tan has lived in Scotland since 2011. He studied an MSc in Brewing and Distilling at Heriot-Watt University, and then went into the cask trade and warehouse keeping. While looking after casks, he started to discover gems that he felt had to be shared with fellow whisky lovers. He bottles these special casks under his Woodrow’s of Edinburgh label.

Woody has an excellent palate, and a knack for uncovering really flavoursome casks. He’s also a wizard when it comes to cask experiments, and has released some interesting cask-finished whiskies.
