Peated Highland Malt 13 Year Old Tasting Notes
Official tasting notes
A cask-strength juggernaut, billowing smoke and fully laden with full-bodied flavour. This is Smokestack Lightning and it's shinin' just like gold. Distilled in an un-named Highland distillery, this aromatic and peated dram is feral. It conjures tastes of rich smoke, barbecued marshmallow, sweet apple crumble, and crisp leather.
Nose: Smoke bellows out of the glass - super sweet and earthy. Smouldering barbecued marshmallows, and new leather follow.
Palate: A coal scuttle, a blast of sweetness mingle with a touch of delicate wine. This fades to an apple crumble warmth layered in with the ubiquitous smoke. Feinty leathers rise toward the finish.
Finish: Long and mellow, the smoke departs and granny’s biscuit tin emerges from the cupboard alongside a touch of citrus.
Ed's review
Colour: Light straw, chardonnay. Thick and oily in the glass.
Nose: Vanilla cream smoked over hay. Lemon tarts with a pebble minerality. Leather-bound books, fresh into the library.
Palate: Medium mouthfeel. Smoke with crisp apples and lemon citrus. Quality malt as the backbone, with light oak and a touch of wood spice. Alcohol is well integrated.
Finish: Long with smoke coming to the fore, before edging back into spice and a warming conclusion.
Overall: A delightful, clean, peated whisky aged in a classic, straight-up, bourbon cask.
About Uncharted's Smokestack Lightning
As you may have noticed, Uncharted Whisky Co always name their whiskies after classic records which have stood the test of time. This whisky was named for the bawling blues classic by the utterly unique Howlin’ Wolf. This full-bodied and gutsy cask strength number bellows charcoal smoke and electrifying flavour.
A mystery distillery, heavily peated and from the Highland region, Speyside is often called a “sub-region” of Highland and we can only reveal that this billowing smoky libation is a Speysider. Alas, not all distilleries are as keen on transparency as we are but one thing we can be sure of is that this is fantastic whisky well worthy of a place on your whisky shelf.

What about taxes?
All alcoholic products sold by TopWhiskies are sold subject to UK alcohol tax, which is already included in the price.
UK sales are subject to VAT (currently 20%), which is included in the price. Sales outside of the UK are not subject to this tax, and international prices do not include it.

All additional charges are the responsibility of the recipient. As customs policies vary widely from country to country, TopWhiskies has no control over these charges, so you should contact your local customs office for further information. If you refuse to pay any import duties and taxes, this could result in the goods being destroyed by customs or being returned back to us - any refund offered would include a deduction of our costs.
