About Uncharted's Brothers in Arms
Auchroisk is a completely un-peated Speyside whisky famous for producing a stunning single malt. The bulk of this liquid has historically been the heart of some pretty famous blends. However, some of this really lovely distillate does find its way to the independent whisky world and indy bottlers can create some pretty marvellous whisky with it. This is a part of the job which Jack and Dana love: taking great spirits, matching them with hand selected maturation wood, and showing off a distillery character often lost to blending and chill-filtration.
What Jack and Dana Love About this Whisky
This whisky has had a super interesting maturation period that begs to be experienced…
Having been distilled in January of 2009, this cask was matured in ex-bourbon wood (surprise surprise…) before Uncharted Whisky got it. Having sampled the spirit, it was clear that the distillate was excellent but the wood needed an upgrade. The Auchroisk single malt was then transferred into two beautiful ex-Palo Cortado sherry casks, one small cask, a quarter cask, and one very small cask, a firkin. These casks not only held Palo Cortado sherry previously (a rare, dry and refined sherry style) but also previously held mature Benrinnes single malt. Sounds delish eh?
The mosaic of additive maturation from the bourbon wood, from the Benrinnes spirit and the Palo Cortado sherry seasoned wood has come together beautifully with the canvas that the Auchroisk distillate offers. The result is a beautiful bread and butter pudding dram with a lot fruit.
Bottled at cask strength of 54.5% ABV at 14 years old, you’d be mad to miss this vatting of the two Brothers In Arms casks.
