Mannochmore 12 Year Old Tasting Notes

Nose: Bright and fruit-forward, opening with red berries, cherry compote, and raspberry coulis layered over soft vanilla and honeyed malt. Hints of milk chocolate and sugared almonds develop alongside gentle floral notes and a touch of cinnamon spice.

Palate: Silky and lively at full strength, delivering flavours of strawberry jam, plum, and redcurrant wrapped around creamy toffee and biscuit malt. The Super Porto finish brings a rich wine-like sweetness balanced by darker notes of cocoa powder, black cherries, and subtle oak spice. A faint herbal edge and cracked black pepper add structure and complexity toward the back palate.

Finish: Medium to long, with lingering red fruits, warming spice, and soft tannins. Notes of dark chocolate, sweet oak, and berry syrup gradually fade into a dry, slightly nutty finish.

About this Tri Carragh whisky

This Mannochmore 12 Year Old from Tri Carragh is a richly fruited and modern Speyside single malt that demonstrates how well Mannochmore’s elegant spirit can respond to carefully judged wine cask finishing.

Distilled in 2014 and bottled in 2026, this release was finished for 15 months in a second fill Super Porto barrique. Porto cask maturation is often associated with bold red fruit and sweetness, but the use of a second fill cask here brings greater balance and restraint, allowing the distillery character to remain clearly visible beneath the wine influence.

Mannochmore is a distillery that tends toward a lighter, fruit-driven style, often showing floral notes and soft malt sweetness. The Porto finish enhances those qualities with layers of berry fruit, chocolate, and spice, while avoiding excessive heaviness. The result is a whisky that feels expressive and indulgent, yet still composed.

On the nose, bright red berries, cherry compote, and raspberry coulis lead into soft vanilla and honeyed malt, with milk chocolate, sugared almonds, and a gentle cinnamon warmth developing in the glass. The palate is silky and lively, bringing together strawberry jam, plum, and redcurrant with creamy toffee and biscuit malt. The Porto influence adds a rich, wine-like sweetness, while darker notes of cocoa powder, black cherries, and oak spice build depth and structure. A faint herbal edge and cracked black pepper provide balance and lift toward the finish.

The finish is medium to long, carrying lingering red fruits, warming spice, and soft tannins, before fading into dark chocolate, sweet oak, and a gently nutty dryness.

Bottled at cask strength (55.6% ABV), with natural colour and without chill filtration, this is a whisky that combines texture, vibrancy, and depth in equal measure. With an outturn of 280 bottles, it’s a thoughtful and highly drinkable Speyside malt that will particularly appeal to fans of fruit-led wine cask maturation done with restraint and precision.

The Three Pillars

Tri Carragh

Tri Carragh is Gaelic for ‘three pillars’. It’s a nod and celebration to the three fundamental core ingredients which are used in the creation of whisky. Water, barley and yeast have been used for centuries to produce Scotland’s finest spirit. When put through their paces, left to rest for years in an oak cask, they create a unique liquid, every single time. Independent bottler Tri Carragh select their single cask whiskies in a thoughtful manner, choosing the distillery and spirit which will encourage the most conversation.
