Pineapple, peach, and pear notes mingle with soft wine tannins, while wisps of earthy smoke drift in gently from the peated octave influence. Hints of toasted oak, dark chocolate, and fragrant spice develop with time in the glass.
Palate: Big, vibrant, and oily in texture. Sweet red fruits and jammy berries arrive first, followed by waves of tropical fruit, honeyed malt, and creamy vanilla. The octave finish adds intensity and richness, bringing notes of black cherries, mulled wine spice, and toasted oak. Subtle peat smoke weaves through the palate rather than dominating it, adding depth alongside cracked pepper and a slight herbal edge at cask strength.
Finish: Long, warming, and slightly drying, with lingering smoke, red berry sweetness, and oak spice. Notes of dark fruit compote, cocoa, and charred wood fade slowly alongside a final touch of earthy peat.

This Inchmurrin 12 Year Old from Tri Carragh is an inventive and highly expressive Highland single malt that pushes Loch Lomond’s famously fruity spirit into darker, smokier territory through an unusual finishing cask.
Distilled in 2014 and bottled in 2026, this whisky was finished for 9 months in a second fill ex-peated red wine octave — a combination of influences rarely seen together. The octave’s smaller size intensifies interaction between spirit and wood, while the previous red wine and peated whisky contents layer fruit richness, gentle tannin, and subtle smoke onto Inchmurrin’s naturally tropical profile.
Produced at Loch Lomond Distillery using the distillery’s distinctive straight-neck stills, Inchmurrin spirit is renowned for its bright estery character, often showing pineapple, pear, peach, and exotic fruit notes. Here, those vibrant tropical elements remain firmly intact, but are framed by richer red fruit, spice, and an earthy smoky undertone that gives the whisky a more dramatic and layered personality.
