About this Old Perth Limited Edition

Sherry uses a complex maturation system called Solera, involving multiple casks and fractional blending. In Solera, barrels are arranged in tiers called criaderas with each tier holding wine of a specific age, with the oldest tier, also called Solera, containing the most complex and aged wine, ready for bottling. When wine is removed for bottling, it is replenished by wine from the next youngest tier above, which is filled in turn by younger wine, continuing the cycle.

Old Perth Sherry Matured Malt Whisky is defined by this unique Sherry-making tradition, as Morrison's incorporate the use of five 70-year-old traditional Sherry butts, housed in Warehouse #1 at Aberargie in Perth. The privilege of being the first to mature whisky in these casks rewards Old Perth with forgotten flavours preserved over time, and internally, Morrisons refer to the liquid from these 70-year-old butts as the special 'Soy Sauce' used in the Original, Double Sherry Wood and Cask Strength recipes.

The Old Perth Solera Limited Edition really is a showcase. A marriage of liquids drawn from each of the five 70-year-old original Sherry butts from Jerez, ‘Solera’ captures 7 decades of the finest quality drinking-Sherry influence, highlighting the unique process and value created by Morrison Distillers and our Old Perth Solera maturation system.

A real experience: Layers of treacle, old book pages, sticky dried fruits & a lasting sweet finish. Think 'old school' sherry-matured malt whisky from the 1960's - spectacular!

Meet the family

The Morrisons

The Morrison's are one of the oldest whisky families in Scotland. The dynasty started in the 18th century when they were grocers. Over the centuries since, they have grown into whisky brokers, blenders, and distillers. Today they are known as Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers and are led by Jamie and Brian Morrison.

Jamie and Brian release whiskies under three brands. Old Perth is their sherried range, and Mac-Talla is their Islay range, and then Carn Mor releases small batch whiskies from a range of distilleries.
