About This Murray McDavid Whisky
In 1795, John Sinclair, a local kelp merchant of Mull, built a port on the waterfront of Tobermory. Three years later, Sinclair established the Ledaig Distillery in his picturesque harbour, importing barley from the mainland for his peat-fired stills. Today, you can enjoy this heavily peated, maritime malt, finished in rum casks from Guyana.
These are rather rare casks. The Uitvlugt Distillery produced a rich, ester-heavy style of rum, until it closed in 2000. With this release, Murray McDavid has layered the historical, smoke-ladened Ledaig spirit with the tropical cask influences lent from a lost legend of the Caribbean.
