This Mac-Talla PX 2026 Limited Edition from Morrison Distillers is a bold, richly sherried Islay whisky that leans confidently into depth, weight, and coastal character. Bottled as an annual Limited Edition release, it showcases Mac-Talla’s house style at its most indulgent: marrying robust peat with generous Pedro Ximénez influence.
Matured using a combination of first fill PX sherry butts and refill PX sherry hogsheads, the whisky balances intensity with control. The first fill casks bring dense sweetness and colour, while the refill hogsheads temper that richness, allowing the Islay spirit and gentle maritime peat to remain clearly in view rather than being overwhelmed by oak.
In the glass, the whisky shows a deep, burnt-molasses hue, setting the tone for what follows. The nose opens with sticky dates and raisins, underpinned by a soft, earthy peat smoke. On the palate, dark dried fruits and warm treacle toffee take centre stage, joined by a saline coastal note that anchors the sweetness and adds structure. Layers of raisins, dates, and subtle spice build steadily, creating a full, mouth-coating experience that feels both rich and composed.
The finish is long and satisfying, carrying dark fruit sweetness forward while gentle smoke lingers in the background - a classic Islay conclusion softened and enriched by sherry influence.
