Colour: How we like our tea before you add the milk.

Nose: Soreen malt loaf, bramble jam, old leather.

Palate: Dark chocolate dipped boozy black cherries with toasted hazelnuts.

Finish: Super long, gentle spice, waves of sherry.

About this Little Brown Dog whisky

Wee Mongrel was the name of Little Brown Dog's first blended whisky, the whisky that put them on the radar of many whisky aficionados.

It’s now probably the release that causes Andrew and Chris the greatest stress, has the greatest level of expectation and they take that seriously. Yes, believe it or not, those mischievous chaps actually do take some things seriously.

It was never intended to be this way, but their Wee Mongrel had to be ~20 years old, ex Edrington stock and fully sherry matured.

Batch Four is exactly this. Aged 22 years minimum, fully sherry cask matured, refill oloroso butt and 1st fill PX hogsheads. If you’ve tried all previous batches, this one is most like batch 2. Big sherry whisky but in a good way and with a decent ABV to hold up alongside the casks.

Andrew and Chris say this EVERY time, like a “last ever” Rolling Stones tour, but they're (currently!) of the view that this is the final batch for the foreseeable future. The stock required to make a blend like this is now very expensive. That may change one day, but for now lets enjoy drinking whisky like this while we can.

How much is shipping?

Shipping charges are calculated during checkout, depending on where you live and how many bottles you’re buying. It's usually more cost effective to ship two or more bottles, particularly for international orders. The perfect excuse to treat yourself to an extra bottle!

What about taxes?

All alcoholic products sold by TopWhiskies are sold subject to UK alcohol tax, which is already included in the price.

UK sales are subject to VAT (currently 20%), which is included in the price. Sales outside of the UK are not subject to this tax, and international prices do not include it.

We use a specialist US shipper who sorts out US taxes. These costs are factored into the US shipping charges. So shipping may look pricey, but remember it covers your taxes as well, so there'll be no further bills to pay. US Customs takes two to three weeks to complete, after which your parcel will arrive at your door as if it were a normal delivery.

For all other territories, including those in Europe, please note: your order could be subject to local sales taxes and duties upon arrival in the destination country. All additional charges are the responsibility of the recipient. As customs policies vary widely from country to country, TopWhiskies has no control over these charges, so you should contact your local customs office for further information. If you refuse to pay any import duties and taxes, this could result in the goods being destroyed by customs or being returned back to us - any refund offered would include a deduction of our costs.

Which couriers do you use?

In the UK we use Royal Mail, Parcelforce and APC. US orders are sent via UPS. International orders use FedEx and DHL. Orders are despatched from our UK warehouse Mondays to Fridays, excluding public holidays.

Carbon neutral?

Yes, all our deliveries are carbon neutral. We work with Planet to estimate the carbon impact of each delivery, and then purchase carbon removal credits to offset the emissions.

Meet The Founders

Dr Andrew Smith and Chris Reid

Little Brown Dog Spirits was founded by Dr Andrew Smith and Chris Reid. They run an independent bottler and micro-distillery based in rural Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

They take their name from Andrew’s beloved dog, whose nickname was the little brown dog. She followed him everywhere on all his distillery visits and was his constant companion. She passed away in 2022 aged 15 but lives on in spirit. Two more little brown dogs, Winnie and Peedie joined the team in 2020 and 2023.

Chris and Andrew started Little Brown Dog in 2018. Based on Chris’s farm they combine a passion for their surrounding area with in-depth knowledge (read intense geekery!) of distilling and cask maturation.
