Nose: Pineapple chinks, white clover, clementine marmalade.
Palate: Passionfruit coulis, custard tart, white grape juice.
Finish: Lemon sherbets, elderflower cordial, sea salt.
About this Little Brown Dog whisky
Caol Ila 2013, but wait, it’s UNPEATED!
We fondly remember the old Diageo special releases with the unpeated Caol Ilas.
The majority of these bottles had a sherried component and so Andrew and Chris at Little Brown did consider a sherry finish on this stock. However, this is a deliberately distillate-forward expression. Naked and peat-free to give you the chance to understand the true character of the unpeated distillate.
Caol Ila is a spirit that we all love. The chance to appreciate, understand and add unpeated Caol Ila to your palate memory bank drove Andrew and Chris to bottle this whisky. A wonderfully high cutting point making for something quite elegant, sweet and delicate. The rarity made these casks fairly expensive but the experience is worth it.
The label is a play on the absence of peat… or Pete. Peter Green was one of the founding members of the band Fleetwood Mac. They continued long after he left the band but the first album without Pete was Kiln House. So no Pete/peat but there’s a kiln? Surely this is the perfect reference for a Caol Ila without Peat!
The greens, reds and cream colours and pencil style of the album art to make the label, some unpeated barley growing. Obscure references, it’s the LBD approach. An original artwork by Alex our designer.
