About this Little Brown Dog release

The second time Little Brown Dog have bottled a whisky from one of their closest distillery neighbours, Ardmore.

While Ardmore is a favourite of Indie Bottlers, it’s not often one finds a HEAVILY PEATED Ardmore.

Ardmore is one of those distilleries so many people take for granted yet it produces consistently excellent spirit and this gorgeous dram is one of the best Andrew and Chris had from here.

A single 1st fill bourbon barrel, filled on the 11th of December 2013 and bottled on the 25th of February 2025. A great big oily beasty, you can almost chew this. Fabulous texture and so much going on, definitely deserves some love.

The label is the same colour as the tiles that surround the old direct fired furnaces. The distillery itself is like a living museum, they never seem to like to throw anything away, our kind of people! There’s still an old steam engine on site, the old boiler plates on display and a those old kilns still in place under the stills.

Meet The Founders

Dr Andrew Smith and Chris Reid

Little Brown Dog Spirits was founded by Dr Andrew Smith and Chris Reid. They run an independent bottler and micro-distillery based in rural Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

They take their name from Andrew’s beloved dog, whose nickname was the little brown dog. She followed him everywhere on all his distillery visits and was his constant companion. She passed away in 2022 aged 15 but lives on in spirit. Two more little brown dogs, Winnie and Peedie joined the team in 2020 and 2023.

Chris and Andrew started Little Brown Dog in 2018. Based on Chris’s farm they combine a passion for their surrounding area with in-depth knowledge (read intense geekery!) of distilling and cask maturation.
