About this Little Brown Dog whisky

This Aberdeenshire Single Malt is a core whisky from Little Brown Dog, made with the same thoughtful, hands-on approach that defines their much-loved small batch and single cask releases.

Created to bring the LBD house style to a wider audience, this is an unpeated Highland malt whisky with real character, balance and approachability. It has been distilled at Glen Garioch Distillery, just a short distance from Little Brown Dog’s Aberdeenshire home, before being matured, vatted and bottled locally by the LBD team.

The recipe brings together 60% first-fill bourbon barrels with 40% oloroso and PX sherry casks, using a mix of refill and first-fill wood. The result is a balanced, old-fashioned style of Highland single malt, combining the fruit, malt and gentle spice of Glen Garioch’s distillate with added richness from carefully selected sherry casks.

Each batch is hand numbered, with around 2,000 bottles produced. That makes it larger than many LBD releases, but still small by wider industry standards. The core recipe is designed to remain broadly consistent, while allowing small variations from batch to batch - something that reflects the charm and individuality of proper small batch whisky.

Bottled with natural colour and without chill filtration, this is a whisky that speaks clearly of place, craft and patience: a taste of Aberdeenshire, made by whisky makers who care deeply about the spirit.

Meet The Founders

Dr Andrew Smith and Chris Reid

Little Brown Dog Spirits was founded by Dr Andrew Smith and Chris Reid. They run an independent bottler and micro-distillery based in rural Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

They take their name from Andrew’s beloved dog, whose nickname was the little brown dog. She followed him everywhere on all his distillery visits and was his constant companion. She passed away in 2022 aged 15 but lives on in spirit. Two more little brown dogs, Winnie and Peedie joined the team in 2020 and 2023.

Chris and Andrew started Little Brown Dog in 2018. Based on Chris’s farm they combine a passion for their surrounding area with in-depth knowledge (read intense geekery!) of distilling and cask maturation.
