About this Lady of The Glen whisky

This Mortlach 13 Year Old from Lady of the Glen, founded by Gregor Hannah, is a rich and characterful Speyside single malt that fully embraces the distillery’s famously robust style.

Distilled on 24 January 2013 and bottled on 26 January 2026, this whisky was initially matured in a hogshead before being re-racked into a first fill ex-Oloroso sherry cask (cask 5753) for over two years. This extended finishing period allows the cask to deeply influence the whisky, layering in richness, spice, and dried fruit while remaining balanced against Mortlach’s powerful distillate.

Often referred to as “The Beast of Dufftown”, Mortlach is known for its full-bodied, meaty character, a result of its unique distillation regime. That weighty spirit stands up particularly well to sherry maturation, and here the Oloroso cask works in harmony with the distillery’s natural profile, enhancing rather than overpowering it.

The result is a whisky of depth and presence. Notes of brown sugar, new leather, and chocolate cherries create a profile that is both indulgent and structured, with the sweetness of dried fruit balanced by savoury undertones and gentle spice. The interplay between cask and spirit is especially well judged, allowing both elements to shine.

Bottled at cask strength (56.5% ABV), with natural colour and without chill filtration, this release delivers texture, intensity, and complexity in equal measure. With an outturn of 248 bottles, it remains a limited and highly characterful example of sherried Mortlach.

A bold, rewarding dram - rich, meaty, and beautifully balanced by Oloroso influence - offering a classic yet refined take on one of Speyside’s most distinctive distilleries.

Meet The Founder

Gregor Hannah

Lady Of The Glen was founded by, and is still run by, Gregor Hannah. From a young age, Gregor developed a keen interest in whisky, influenced by his father, a Scottish piper. His father would often receive bottles of whisky as tokens of appreciation for his performances at various celebrations, including weddings and Burn's Nights. Fascinated by the wide array of bottles, each with its own unique colours, shape, and label, Gregor developed a strong appreciation for scotch whisky.

Two and a half decades later, while working at a bar, Gregor's learned about independent bottling. Here, he gained in-depth knowledge about the history and techniques of sourcing and bottling unique whiskies. This led him to establish Lady of The Glen in 2012. The brand is independently owned and specialises in sourcing and bottling rare, single-cask whiskies from various regions in Scotland.
