Fettercairn 8 Year Old Tasting Notes
Nose: Fresh and tropical, with notes of pineapple, melon, and citrus zest layered over soft vanilla and honeyed malt. Fettercairn’s spirit character brings a slightly exotic edge, with hints of mango and green banana alongside floral aromas and light oak spice. Gentle coconut and buttery pastry notes emerge with time in the glass.
Palate: Bright and lively, opening with creamy vanilla, golden syrup, and ripe orchard fruits. The bourbon cask adds sweetness and texture, introducing flavours of toasted oak, caramelised sugar, and soft baking spice. Tropical fruit notes continue through the palate, balanced by fresh citrus oils and a subtle herbal edge that keeps the whisky vibrant and clean.
Finish: Medium length, warming and crisp, with lingering vanilla cream, sweet malt, and peppery oak spice. Notes of citrus peel and tropical fruit gradually fade into a soft, drying finish.
Overall: A youthful yet characterful Fettercairn that showcases the distillery’s naturally bright and tropical spirit style. The ex-bourbon maturation enhances the whisky’s freshness and sweetness without overpowering its lively Highland character.
About This GreatDrams Whisky
The Fettercairn logo includes the Unicorn – Scotland’s national animal – and we like to think of this as a unicorn whisky as it is incredible, and still one of the industry’s hidden gems. Expect sweet apple, a slightly herbal note and toffee in the mouth and a long sweet finish with lingering chocolate and fruit notes from this whisky by GreatDrams.
Fettercairn is one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland. It was founded in 1824 by Sir Alexander Ramsay, the owner of the estate on which the distillery is located. The distillery uses an unconventional cooling process to lower the temperature of the spirit stills; cold water is simply run down the exterior of the stills (ingenious, and incredible to see in person).
