About this Gleann Mor Rare Find
This Deanston 14 Year Old from Gleann Mór Spirits joins the Rare Find range as a bold and characterful Highland single malt, showcasing the influence of a single first fill Napa Valley red wine cask on Deanston’s naturally rich and waxy spirit.
Distilled in 2011 and bottled in 2026, this whisky matured in cask #300659, where the first fill Napa Valley wine cask has layered vibrant berry fruit, gentle tannins, and warming spice onto the distillery’s robust malt character. Deanston’s full-bodied spirit is particularly well suited to active wine casks, retaining its creamy texture while embracing the richer fruit profile imparted by the oak.
Produced by Deanston Distillery, the spirit is renowned for its honeyed sweetness, cereal richness, and waxy mouthfeel. Here, those classic traits are complemented by the ripe red fruit character of the wine cask, resulting in a whisky that is both generous and beautifully balanced.
The nose opens with balsamic strawberries and freshly picked raspberries, layered over buttery flapjacks and supported by gentle cinnamon and ginger spice. The palate is rich and mouthfilling, delivering juicy berries, ripe plums, and sweet sultanas before golden syrup and building cask pepperiness provide depth and structure. The wine influence enhances the fruit without overwhelming the whisky, allowing Deanston's creamy texture to remain firmly at the forefront.
The finish is long and satisfying, carrying lingering ripe berries, warming spice, and gently drying oak that leaves the whisky feeling balanced rather than overly sweet.
Bottled at cask strength (57.3% ABV), with natural colour and without chill filtration, this release offers both power and elegance in equal measure. With an outturn of 268 bottles, it is a distinctive expression that highlights the successful marriage of Highland spirit and premium red wine cask maturation.
A richly fruited Highland malt - where vibrant Napa Valley wine influence enhances Deanston's naturally creamy and full-bodied character.
