About this Fib Whisky

This Pictish Alliance Volume I release from Fib Whisky, created by whiskymakers Iain and Andrew Mundy, is a bold and imaginative blended Scotch that combines grain and malt spirit with an unconventional finishing cask to create something genuinely distinctive.

The whisky marries spirit from Strathclyde grain distillery with malt from Dalrymple (tea-spooned Aisla Bay), both aged for 13 years before being brought together. After maturation in two bourbon casks, the whisky was finished for 10 months in a Champagne barrique, an unusual choice that gives this release its lively, bright character. Rather than adding heavy sweetness, the Champagne wood brings freshness, texture, and a subtle sparkling-wine lift that complements the creamy grain and gently peated malt.

Bottled at a robust cask strength of 60.7% ABV, and presented with natural colour and without chill filtration, this is a whisky that keeps all of its texture and intensity intact. Despite the strength, the style is energetic rather than heavy, with the different components working together to create balance and movement across the palate.

On the nose, freshly baked brioche and crisp green fruit set the tone, hinting at both the Champagne influence and the creamy sweetness of mature grain whisky. The palate opens with immediate notes of sweet toffee, before developing into brighter citrus, soft orchard fruit, and a gentle nuttiness. The finish is vibrant and long, with an almost effervescent lift - zesty citrus and earthy almond notes lingering in a way that feels both playful and refined.

With an outturn of just 248 bottles, Pictish Alliance Volume I is a creative, small-batch release that reflects Fib Whisky’s willingness to experiment while still delivering a whisky that remains balanced, drinkable, and full of character.
