About this Dram Mor whisky
This Secret Lowland 11 Year Old from Dràm Mòr is a quietly characterful single malt that showcases how gently applied sherry influence can elevate Lowland spirit without overwhelming it. Distilled in 2014 and bottled in 2025, the whisky was finished in a refill Oloroso sherry hogshead (cask #105) and released at cask strength (57.1%), with natural colour and no chill filtration. The outturn is a healthy but still limited 324 bottles.
Lowland malts are often prized for their elegance and approachability, and this expression leans into that tradition while adding an extra layer of intrigue through careful cask selection. A refill Oloroso hogshead is a deliberate choice here: rather than delivering heavy sherry richness, it allows the spirit’s natural freshness and fruit character to remain front and centre, while gently seasoning the whisky with warmth and spice.
On the nose, the whisky opens with a comforting mix of fresh-baked cinnamon buns and old-fashioned boiled sweets, before developing a more unexpected savoury-sweet edge. Subtle spices emerge alongside a distinctive mango chutney note, adding depth and complexity without tipping into heaviness.
The palate continues this sweet-and-spicy interplay, with the sherry influence acting as a supporting role rather than the main event. Green apple fruitiness brings freshness and lift, balancing the warming spice and keeping the whisky lively and well-paced despite its cask strength.
The finish is where this dram really shines. Pink peppercorn spice and dried apple chips linger impressively long, giving the whisky a confident, drying close that feels both elegant and satisfying. This is a thoughtful, well-judged Lowland single malt that rewards attention.
