Ben Nevis 25 Year Old Tasting Notes
Selim's tasting notes
Nose: Stone dust, candle wax, tobacco, honey, tangerine, marzipan and dark chocolate.
Palate: Beeswax, bitter orange, apple juice, strong cappuccino, white pepper, apple pie, cinnamon.
Ed's review
Nose: Opens with an earthy, slightly rustic edge. Think dry tobacco leaf and old library shelves. That mellows into warm honey and orange oil, with a subtle waxiness in the background. There’s also a rich, nutty sweetness, like chocolate-dipped marzipan—with just a wisp of citrus zest lifting it.
Palate: Silky and full-bodied, with a lovely balance of sweetness and spice. Bitter orange peel and stewed apples up front, followed by creamy coffee and a pinch of white pepper. As it develops, a hint of buttery pastry and gentle cinnamon spice brings to mind a warm fruit tart.
Finish: Lingering and comforting, with notes of dark chocolate, orchard fruit, and just a touch of oak and spice to keep it grounded.
About this Chapter 7 Whisky
Chapter 7 released this superb 25-year-old single malt from Ben Nevis as part of their Monologue range, selected by founder Selim Evin. Distilled in November 1998 and bottled in December 2023, this Highland whisky was matured in a single bourbon hogshead (cask 1396), allowing Ben Nevis’s robust and slightly waxy character to shine through with layers of honeyed malt, citrus peel, and gentle oak spice. Bottled at 49.8% ABV with natural colour and no chill filtration, the cask yielded just 216 bottles. This is a mature, complex dram with real depth and Highland charm.
