This Mortlach 4 Year Old from Morrison Distillers was released under the Càrn Mòr Strictly Limited range, offering a fascinating glimpse into the character of one of Speyside’s most distinctive distilleries at a surprisingly youthful age.
Distilled in 2021 and bottled in 2026, this single malt matured in American oak casks, allowing Mortlach’s naturally robust and weighty spirit to take centre stage. While Mortlach is often associated with long maturation and rich sherry casks, this bottling demonstrates just how much character the distillery’s famously complex spirit can deliver even in its early years.
Known as the “Beast of Dufftown”, Mortlach Distillery produces a spirit renowned for its richness, texture, and depth. Here, the American oak maturation brings a brighter and more approachable side to the whisky, highlighting sweetness, floral notes, and fresh fruit while retaining the substance that makes Mortlach so highly regarded.
The nose opens with sugared almonds, honeysuckle, and fresh orchard fruits, creating a vibrant and inviting introduction. On the palate, those fruit notes continue alongside creamy vanilla sweetness, honeyed malt, and gentle oak influence from the cask. The whisky carries more weight than its age might suggest, with Mortlach’s distinctive spirit character providing texture and depth beneath the sweeter flavours.
