About this Càrn Mòr whisky
This Imperial 27 Year Old from Morrison Distillers is a rare and highly collectible release from the Càrn Mòr Celebration Of The Cask series, showcasing whisky from one of Speyside’s lost distilleries.
Distilled in 1998 and bottled in 2026, this single malt matured for 27 years in a single bourbon barrel, allowing the spirit to develop extraordinary complexity while retaining the elegance and fruit-forward character that made Imperial so highly regarded among whisky enthusiasts. Closed in 1998 and later demolished, Imperial’s remaining stocks have become increasingly scarce, making mature bottlings such as this particularly sought after.
Long-aged bourbon cask maturation often reveals some of whisky’s most captivating flavours, and this release demonstrates exactly why. Decades of slow interaction with the oak have softened and refined the spirit, creating a whisky that balances maturity, freshness, and depth in equal measure.
The whisky opens with luscious tropical fruits, a hallmark often found in well-aged Speyside malts. Notes of ripe mango, pineapple, and exotic fruit are layered with bright orange rind, adding freshness and vibrancy to the profile. Beneath the fruit sits a creamy richness, with white chocolate bringing texture and sweetness without overwhelming the whisky’s natural elegance.
The palate continues this interplay between tropical fruit and mature oak influence, delivering a beautifully integrated experience where richness and freshness remain perfectly balanced. The finish is long, gentle, and refined, with lingering citrus oils, creamy sweetness, and soft oak notes gradually fading away.
Bottled at cask strength (45% ABV), with natural colour and without chill filtration, this whisky demonstrates how graceful and expressive long-aged spirit can become after nearly three decades in cask. With an outturn of just 108 bottles, it represents a rare opportunity to experience mature whisky from a closed distillery whose spirit can never be recreated.
A beautifully mature Imperial - elegant, tropical, and wonderfully complex, offering a glimpse into a lost chapter of Speyside whisky history.
