Dumbarton 24 Year Old Tasting Notes

The sweet fruit notes from the nose (think of dried apricots and soft peaches) meld seamlessly with a layer of vanilla toffee and caramelized sugar. There is a slight nutty undertone of toasted almonds or perhaps hazelnuts, which adds complexity to the smooth sweetness.

About this Ardent Spirits whisky

Ardent Spirits Dumbarton 24 Year Old is a beautifully mature Lowland single grain whisky, distilled in 2000 and bottled at 48% ABV with natural colour and no chill filtration. Drawn from a single cask of just 200 bottles, this release captures the silky elegance and subtle sweetness that made Dumbarton grain whisky so admired among blenders and collectors alike.

The Dumbarton distillery, once one of Scotland’s largest grain sites, closed in the early 2000s - making any remaining casks increasingly rare. Distilled from maize and matured for nearly a quarter of a century, this whisky showcases the distillery’s hallmark style: soft, rounded, and gently indulgent.

On the nose, layers of sweet dried apricots and soft peaches mingle with vanilla toffee and caramelised sugar. The palate is luxuriously smooth, revealing notes of creamy fudge, light oak, and honeyed cereal, underpinned by a subtle nuttiness of toasted almonds and hazelnuts. The finish is long, mellow, and gracefully sweet, echoing the fruit and vanilla tones to the very end.

This is a quintessentially elegant grain whisky: mature, refined, and a testament to the quiet craftsmanship of a lost Lowland giant.
