About This Rare Find Whisky
This 19-year-old Longmorn from Gleann Mór Spirits is a rich and expressive Speyside single malt released under the Rare Find label — a range that focuses on distinctive casks and characterful maturation.
Distilled in 2006 and bottled in 2023, this whisky spent the majority of its life maturing traditionally before undergoing a 14-month finish in an Amarone wine barrique (cask 12597). Amarone, one of Italy’s most celebrated wines, is known for its concentrated, dried-fruit intensity and full-bodied richness. When used in whisky maturation, it brings layers of dark berry fruit, depth, and a slightly vinous texture - a natural complement to Longmorn’s inherently weighty and fruit-driven spirit.
Longmorn is widely regarded as one of Speyside’s most complete distillates, combining richness, orchard fruit, and a subtle malty depth. Here, the Amarone finish enhances those qualities, adding a darker, more decadent fruit profile while maintaining balance and structure.
On the nose, stewed plums and ripe hedgerow berries lead, supported by buttery shortbread and a gentle thread of golden tobacco. The palate is thick and syrupy, unfolding into red berries and redcurrants layered with dark chocolate and polished oak. The finish is long and lingering, with soft fruit sweetness gradually giving way to a lively, slightly effervescent oak character that adds lift and intrigue.
Bottled at a robust cask strength of 60.4% ABV, with natural colour and without chill filtration, this is a whisky that delivers both power and complexity. With just 155 bottles drawn from the cask, it’s a compact but highly characterful release - a fine example of how well Longmorn responds to bold, wine-led finishing when handled with precision.
