Naming rights are a funny old thing but you now what this is even without having to revert to what3word coordinates! We all still struggle to understand why some casks can be named and others cannot, there are reasons but we still think it’s a bit silly, especially when it’s as obvious as this but it’s something we have to respect and if that means we can enjoy a beautiful coastal 24 year old malt at cask strength for under £100 then we’re not complaining, much.

Anyway, the important bit, the whisky. This is a vatting of two refill hogsheads, sister casks with low fill levels. Low fill levels aren’t great for yield, but they do make magnificently oxidised whisky. Refill wood really gave this spirit the space and time it needed to get to this point. Good refill wood is one of the things that really separates Scotch whisky from the world whiskies, allowing for longer maturation times without the spirit being dominated by wood. This whisky is all about texture and layering, a wonderfully oily spirit, that builds and coats with each sip.

Faint peat comes across here as distant smoke, not dominating but seasoning the spirit, adding to the salinity and depth, but with that sweet fruitiness that only comes from age. Exceptional value, well aged single malt, you know you want some.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0428/1722/4864/files/little-brown-dog-orkney-24-year-old-1.jpg?v=1786543062
