Whisky Tasting Notes

Colour: Natural; a beautiful dark gold, with nice, slow tears in the glass.

Nose: A very full-flavoured nose, layers of brown sugar and caramel, enhanced with figs and dates, red stewed fruit, and some cinnamon spice as well. The peat arrives in a delicate, refined way, working together well with the sweetness from the PX cask. After allowing for some breathing time, there are dark forest fruits, like blackcurrants and raspberries.

Palate: When you take a sip, the peat comes into greater focus, arriving in waves which alternate with sweet, fresh fruit. The mouthfeel is ever so slightly drying, bringing on that pleasant sensation of raspberry juice in your mouth. Even at 50% the alcohol is well integrated, giving so much room for all the refined elements coming in.

Finish: A juicy, smooth finish, medium long, prolonging the red fruit and adding an extra note of dark chocolate.

About this collaboration

This is Roger Whisky Company's first independent bottling. It's also the first edition of a special collaboration between Roger Tan and his good friend Torsten Zimmerman of Scotch & Tattoos. This particular single malt scotch whisky is a 12 year old single Caol Ila cask finished in a first-fill Pedro Ximenez octave. Torsten’s twin bottling is its sister cask finished in a first-fill Oloroso octave.

Meet the founder

Roger Tan

Roger started his whisky journey in 1995, where many of us started: as a casual enthusiast of single malts, appreciating the nuances and subtleties between whiskies and distilleries.

In 2019 he started photographing whisky bottles for his Instagram. He delighted in meeting great, like-minded, from all over the world; talking about whisky, and just plain having fun!

After a while, Roger was struck by the dream of setting up his own whisky company. So, that's exactly what he did. He made his dream come true, with the arrival of Roger’s Whisky Company in 2020. Starting modest, but with big ambitions - and plenty of the best whisky along the way.
