Sipping Shed Caol Ila 10 Tasting Notes
Nose: Plenty of peat smoke and ozonic sea air leave you in no doubt as to where this whisky was raised. There’s honeysuckle too, with citrus aromas providing balance alongside a hint of apple skin.
Palate: Imagine a beach barbecue on the isle of Islay… smouldering smoky coals mingle with gentle floral notes and heather blowing on the sea-soaked breeze… mmm. That. But as whisky. Classic Islay. Classic Caol Ila. Smoky, peaty and multilayered.
Finish: Long with fading wood embers providing the final wisp of smoke.
About this whisky
A note from Dan: This is a great, straight-up, unfinished crisp Caol Ila. It’s also a classic example of single cask whisky. It has more definition and precision than the distillery releases but retains the distillery character so you immediately know it’s a Caol Ila. There’s something about this bottling that transports me to Islay and makes me want to venture out on a blustery day. It immediately evokes fond memories of Islay. Surprisingly approachable at cask strength.

How much is shipping?

What about taxes?
All alcoholic products sold by TopWhiskies are sold subject to UK alcohol tax, which is already included in the price.
UK sales are subject to VAT (currently 20%), which is included in the price. Sales outside of the UK are not subject to this tax, and international prices do not include it.
We use a specialist US shipper who sorts out US taxes. These costs are factored into the US shipping charges. So shipping may look pricey, but remember it covers your taxes as well, so there'll be no further bills to pay.
For all other territories, including those in Europe, please note: your order could be subject to local sales taxes and duties upon arrival in the destination country. All additional charges are the responsibility of the recipient. As customs policies vary widely from country to country, TopWhiskies has no control over these charges, so you should contact your local customs office for further information. Which couriers do you use?
In the UK we use Royal Mail, Parcelforce and APC. US orders are sent via UPS. International orders use FedEx and DHL. Orders are despatched from our UK warehouse Mondays to Fridays, excluding public holidays.
